About Us
Close to the borders of England and Scotland and to the Lake District, Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery is a meeting point of the History, Nature and Art in one of Britain’s most fascinating regions. The rich collections are a resource of local, regional and national importance.
Over the autumn and winter months Tullie House is pleased to offer you an exciting range of exhibitions and events. “Thy Will Be Done” is our exhibition combining objects from Tullie House’s collections with new works by Jamie Shovlin. This is a collaborative project between artist and museum into past and.present cultures. We are delighted to show “The Little Black Dress” (LBD) over the Christmas period, which explores the evolution of the LBD over the past eight decades. An excellent opportunity to book a Christmas Party evening at Tullie House and view the LBD exhibition.
We continue to run our programme of activities and events for children and families, as well as our Tuesday Lunchtime Talks and Monday Alternative Films. Ensure you keep up to date by receiving the Tullie House newsletter ..... and visiting the Tullie House website ......
Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery transferred to Trust in May. The Museum is now an independent organisation and is supported by a Board of Trustees chaired by Roger Cooke. You will begin to notice changes in the museum – initially these will be minor such as publicity and leaflets, but gradually they will become more apparent.
The Roman Frontier Gallery opens on Saturday 25th June and is already receiving national and international interest. It promotes the western end of Hadrian’s Wall and describes Carlisle’s 400 years of Roman occupation. We are delighted to have a range of objects on loan from the British Museum. Tullie House is now a British Museum Partnership Gallery.
