The Tullie House Travel Group evolved from The Friends of Tullie House and they are now Members of this Museum.
Since the early 1990s there have been holidays abroad, long weekends and excellent day trips with all destinations chosen for an abundance of museums , historic houses ,art galleries, gardens and ,for the first two, somewhere for convivial dinners and comfortable beds.
Since 2006, the dynamic and endlessly patient Christina and Hugh Nicholson Walker have organised with meticulous care and often after extensive reconnaissance, long weekends which have been most enjoyable.
This year their final trip for the Travel Group was five nights in Amsterdam. We travelled by coach to Newcastle to catch an early evening flight to Schipol ( it takes longer to drive from Carlisle to Newcastle as it does to fly to this destination ! ) Tulips in Amsterdam -- we had a wonderful time !. In Amsterdam itself , Van Gogh and Rembrandt, to the Hague, via Delft for the fabulous Mauritshuis which is the home of Vermeer’s ‘ Girl with a pearl earring ‘ and his sublime’ View of Delft’. To Haarlem for the enchanting flower filled Frans Hals’ Museum. We also visited the world famous Keukenhof Gardens and finally to Appledoorn to William of Orange’s grand Palace of Het Loo set in magnificient grounds.
These five days in Holland were a splendid ending to Christina and Hugh’s nine years of organising Tullie house holidays which have always been interesting and full of fun and laughter. The friends concerned take this opportunity to send them their thanks and appreciation for so many happy memories.
As Members we are full of enthusiasm to carry on with the Travel Group and are currently looking at possibilities for future trips both in the UK and abroad with the next one to take place in Spring 2016.
