Workshops for Adults

Creative Solutions to Tricky Problems

Creative Solutions to Tricky Problems

31 May - Creative Solutions to Tricky Problems

When a problem arises in our lives – what do we do? Just as water in a stream flows over and around an obstacle, accommodating it within its flow, we can take the same approach using our creativity. Working individually and as a group, we’ll use a variety of art materials including pens, paper, clay, paints and a few everyday objects. We’ll try out several ways to leap from our left brain into right brain function to discover, hopefully, a few new insights. This is an experimental and experiential day which will be fun and informal - previous experience of working with art materials is not essential.

Carlisle Life Website

A New website to compliment the gallery

The Carlisle Life website reflects the galleries ethos in creating a sense of place and flavour of Carlisle's recent local history.

The website has strong community based audio-visual content which is linked to a community based interactive in the gallery - 'Your Story.'

Visitors to the website can see footage of members of the community talking about objects relating to broad themes of work, leisure and home life.

The content seen on the web will also appear in the gallery at regular eight monthly intervals. The Website provides visitors with an overview of the exhibition and its cases. There is also a collections search facility which will develop in time.

River Caldew Flood Scheme Art Surgery

Wednesday 14 May - Denton Holme

We are working with the Environment Agency and one of Britain's leading public artists, Liam Curtin, to realise a series of public art works as part of the flood alleviation scheme for the River Caldew in Denton Holme and the centre of Carlisle.

Liam is designing a series of decorative plaques based on aspects of Carlisle's history, the natural history of the river itself and - of course - the great flood of 2005.

The artist is particularly interested to hear from people with stories to tell about the flood, and is running an 'Art Surgery' on Wednesday 14 May at Denton Holme Community Centre (in Morley Street) from 4.00pm - 7.00pm. People are invited to drop in, meet the artist, learn more about the flood defences and the proposed artworks, and share their stories.

If you can't get to the Art Surgery, you can contact the artist on 07962 783100 or email liamcurtin1@aol.com
