“Rock-On” Geology Stall (with Curator, Dr Simon Jackson)

As part of GeoWeek, a new initiative that promotes earth sciences across the UK, Tullie House will have an exciting range of rocks, minerals and fossils on the galleries for people to see and handle. Whether it is the teeth of extinct, huge reptiles (ichthyosaurs) or mammoths, amazingly beautiful minerals including the fun sounding plumbogummite, or iconic rock types such as Shap granite, there will be much to see from our nationally significant geology collections. Some 300 million years of evolutionary history is locked away in the landscapes of Cumbria; the TH collection provides a window into this rich history. Come and discover!

There will be also be accompanying geology related arts and crafts in a family drop in.
