A fantastic weekend of art, craft, performances and hands-on science activities inspired by our Eden Rivers Wonder World exhibition

Wonder World Family Festival

Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th July - 10am - 4pm

The star show of the weekend will be the colourful and creative Cardboard Carnival a Puppet Show “The Carnival of the Animals”. Carnival creates itself from all sorts of things! Inspiration and delight for everyone from 4 to 104 from the world renowned Lempen Puppet Theatre. The Cardboard Carnival Shows take place at 11.30am and 1.30pm, advance booking recommended. Please call the booking office on 01228 618700 to secure your ticket.

Litter Lives! Animate plastic bottles and tin cans to make them dance and twirl their ways in to the nearest litter bin. Join film-maker Janine Bebbington and have a go at stop motion techniques to get this litter moving! Workshops bookable on the day.

Rivers of Light, with Eden Rivers Trust. Make Eden’s mountains and valleys in our high-tech sand-box and create rivers of light that flow through them. Have fun experimenting with speeding up and slowing down rainwater as it flows through the landscape and see if you can save the towns from flooding.

Wild World Stories. A long time ago in a river in a valley. Meet playful caterpillar, proud Tawny Owl and clever Wren; fly with majestic Eagle, swim with wise Salmon, and play with mischievous Otter. Join our storyteller to hear traditional stories and folk tales about the magical creatures that inhabit our region. Suitable for all the family.

Giant Felt River. Get your hands wet and help us create a giant felt river with artist Debra Esterhuizen. The river will be full of amazing creatures from salmon and kingfishers to crayfish and lampreys. Once it’s finished it will be put on displayed in our atrium for our all visitors to see.

Dipping Delights. Join Eden Rivers Trust down at the river to find out what’s living in it and see up-close the amazing creatures that can be found when ‘kick-sampling’. There’s sure to be a lot to see, so don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to learn first-hand from the experts. Please note this activity is located at the Sheepmount end of Bitts Park, where the River Caldew meets the River Eden.

We also have face painters, take away crafts and fun activities for all the family!
