Exhibition took place 23 November 2013- 2 March 2014 in the Exhibitions Gallery.

Ocean by Natasha Daintry, an installation of 1,000 slip-cast porcelain pots produced in 2009, is the focus of this exhibition. It is considered Daintry’s finest work to date and is cleverly arranged to form an ‘ocean’ which explores the artist’s fascination with nature, water, movement, porcelain and colour theory. Ocean is a major contemporary art acquisition for Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Trust and complements our historic porcelain collection some of which will be displayed alongside. Colourful historic Chinese porcelain on loan from the British Museum will also feature. Selected pieces made by students at the University of Cumbria in response to ‘Ocean’ will also be on show.

Ocean was purchased jointly with Touchstones Rochdale, Gallery Oldham, Harris Museum and Art Gallery and Nottingham City Museums and Galleries through the Contemporary Art Society’s New Story of Craft initiative with additional funding from the Art Fund and Friends of Tullie House.
