England CALMG : 1946.67.15 watercolour

Buit's Castle, near Bewcastle, about 1840-58 by William James Blacklock.

A solitary figure on the right of the composition approaches a ruined castle standing in midst of heathery moorland with distant blue hills beyond.

An important local artist, Blacklock resided in London for 15 years before returning to Cumbria where he remained for the final 8 years of his life.
