Old Tullie House
Old Tullie House is closed until Saturday 30th January due to repainting and rehanging new picture from our collection.
Old Tullie House includes the original Jacobean house (1689); displayed items are mainly from the Fine & Decorative Arts collections and are subject to change.
Foyer and Victorian stairs: a selection of paintings by major local artists; English porcelain from the R.H. Williamson bequest.
Victorian stairs (upper): British paintings from the collections.
Ground floor room (the 'Fireside Gallery'): objects and costume from 19th century childhood, including an early 20th century school-room setting; 'feely-box' , and school 'uniform' to try on.
Panelled Room: works by the Pre-Raphaelites and the Arts and Crafts movement, furniture, textiles, metalwork and art pottery.
Jacobean staircase: portraits from the 18th/19th century collections (includes a large study of the Dixons in their panelled Drawing Room in Tullie House, 1842); Romney portrait of the Bishop of Carlisle c.1780.
A few rooms within Old Tullie House are currently non-public spaces.
