Schools Outreach
Tullie House runs an outreach service to schools. The half day sessions are priced according to the school's distance from Carlisle. There are reductions for User Group schools and for booking a full day. They can be booked on dates/times to suit the school, subject to the availability of a session leader, apart from Garbology which takes place in set weeks (see below).
For further details, prices of these sessions or to book please contact Chris Smith on 01228 618762 or e-mail chrisS@carlisle.gov.uk.
The topics we offer are:
NEW!!
The Seaside - KS1
This exciting new session uses artefacts, maps and activities to discover and explore the life, geography and history of a seaside town.
Florence Nightingale/Victorian Women - KS1
Have Florence visit your class and find out what she took with her to the Crimea.
A Roman Soldier - KS2
What can we learn about the life of a Roman soldier from his clothing, armour and kit? How much did he have to carry? Find out by handling original artefacts and exploring his belonging. One lucky pupil will find out for real, with the help of classmates, how heavy all that stuff really was!
World War II Evacuation - KS2
How did it feel to be evacuated during WWII? Find out what four evacuees took with them in their own suitcases.
Vikings - KS2
Explore the Vikings as both invaders and settlers through replica artefacts and costume.
Tudors - KS2
What was life like for the rich and poor? Use replica artefacts, costume and original pottery to find out.
SPECIAL OUTREACH
Garbology - KS2
9 to 13 November 2009
15 to 19 March 2010 - National Science and Engineering Week
7 to 11 June 2010
Half Day session - £50 for User Groups and £60 for non User group schools
Garbology takes place in a special week each term. It links history, science and citizenship in an unusual and exciting cross-curricular session.
Schools that have taken part in Garbology already have loved it. Exciting, hands-on and no writing. Pupils gain a fantastic insight into how we use old rubbish as evidence to investigate the past, whilst at the same time thinking about the impact of our own rubbish today.
