Cleaning up Carlisle - Thursday 28th September at 3pm
Join Curator Melanie Gardener for a talk on our Spotlight Gallery exhibition 'Cleaning up Carlisle'. This exhibition focuses on a painting by Carlisle artist James Lowes and shows a rare view of the city from the North East. It is one of only two oil paintings of Carlisle produced in the 18th Century and shows two bridges across the river Eden and the city walls still intact. The painting was in very poor condition with the canvas spilt in several places and the surface of it very dirty, but has now been fully repaired and cleaned.
The talk will be an oppertunity to find out more about this intriguing painting and also about the interesting restoration process. The talk will last for 30 minutes and there will be the opportunity to view the painting and the exhibition in the Spotlight Gallery.*
To attend this interesting talk, please telephone our box office on 01228 618700.
*Due to limited space in the Spotlight gallery there may be a small delay in viewing the exhibition.
