Groom’s wedding suit, 1977
In the 1970s fashions became increasingly individualistic. Most men still wore suits but there were subtle changes to the shape as can be seen in this example.
This groom’s three piece brown pin-striped terylene and wool suit was made by ‘Mancraft’. It comprises a single-breasted jacket with wide lapels, waistcoat and flared trousers. The groom wore a Ben Sherman cream cotton open-necked shirt underneath with no tie and a pair of brown leather Dolcis platform slip-on shoes. Mr J Marshall wore this suit for his marriage on 25 June 1977.
- Men's suits changed in style during the 1970s to include wide lapels and flared trousers.
