Yak Yak on the Wall
Tullie House’s Museum youth group (affectionately known as ‘Yak Yak’) recently undertook an 84 mile hike along Hadrian’s Wall as part of a larger Roman project, to celebrate the opening of the new Roman Frontier Gallery.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the group of 7 young people and 3 adults met with various people who explained to them the unique World Heritage Site. From discussing the local landscape, flora and fauna to finding out more about the archaeology and how this national trail is managed, Yak Yak explored a variety of areas to increase their understanding of Hadrian’s Wall. The group walked the 84 miles in 7 days with an additional day spent on roman themed workshops at Once Brewed Youth Hostel with the British Museum’s youth group, B-Muse, who had travelled up from London!
The group also set up a blog to chart their exploits (visit www.yakyakonthewall.wordpress.com) and will be producing a DVD about their experiences.
Yak Yak will be presenting their findings at a celebratory event for the whole project on Friday 30th September which will include the first showing of their DVD.
