We are thrilled to announce that we have won the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award – one of the biggest museum awards in Britain. There was tough competition from over 850 nominations, from tiny one-roomed galleries to mighty museums of international reputation, but we came out on top to be chosen as most family friendly museum in Britain.

The award is sponsored by Telegraph Newspaper Group and gets more nominations than any other museum award in Britain, and probably in the world!  Over the course of the summer, the six shortlisted museums were road-tested by undercover families against the 20 points on the Kids in Museums Manifesto. Tullie House shone through as the most welcoming on all counts, from the temporary exhibitions to the toilets.

It’s the only Award where families pick the winner. Here’s why 10 year old Zara said Tullie House should win:

"Tullie House is our favourite, favourite, favourite museum in the whole world. We go with Gran and Grandad all the time. There are so many cool things to see and do.

It is great cos Granddad knows lots of stuff, but sometimes he doesn’t know so we ask the ladies cos they always know. The ladies in the museum are very nice and friendly, so it makes us feel safe and happy."

Along with Zara we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported and voted for us.

Hilary Wade, Director of Tullie House said “We are delighted to have won this prestigious national award and it is a fantastic accolade to the hard work and commitment of the whole team at the museum.  Families are one of our main audiences and the team works extremely hard to develop innovative, exciting and engaging family friendly activities and exhibitions that have broad appeal.  The current Eye for Colour exhibition is specifically aimed at family audiences and it is very popular because it is interactive, fun and educational. The museum works hard to create diverse programmes for all audiences so it is extra special to be able to receive recognition from our visitors for our family friendly programme. We would like to thank everyone who has nominated Tullie House for this impressive national award”.
