Our photographic collection of approximately 30,000 items spans the history of popular photography. Images primarily focus on Carlisle people and places, with wider Cumbrian scenes also being represented.
The collections feature the archive of over 3000 negatives and images by noted photographer and archaeologist Mary Cicely Fair, the archive of Carlisle commercial photographer F W Tassell comprising over 2000 negatives and images, and over 700 images from Carlisle photographer Jim Templeton.
We’ve taken a look at the photographic collection of the wonderful Mary Cicely Fair, who took her camera on her travels around Cumbria. The results give us a fascinating insight into Cumbrian life in the early twentieth century. Read the full story here
