Tek a Deek: Historic Photos of Carlisle

Tek a Deek at images from our photographic collection showing Carlisle over the last 140 years.  From familiar vistas to long-gone streets, the everyday to curious events, our display of over 70 images gives you a glimpse of moments in Carlisle's history.

This super display on show in our Cafe, is a series of curated groups of images:

DEEKABOUT YONDER looks at how we have travelled in the city including an image that demonstrates where you shouldn’t park your penny farthing.

GAN OOT considers our leisure time in the city and features an image by one of Carlisle’s finest photographers F W Tassell.

MA YAM shows our city centre revealing many streets and buildings that you may have forgotten about.

LA’L CUDDY features our animal companions in the city including a superb image by noted photographer and historian Mary C Fair.

UP STREET focusses on shopping in the city centre, with familiar brands alongside local favourites.

SMART COWIE reveals new aspects to our city’s most recognisable landmarks and asks how it is possible for so many people to fit into Carr’s Biscuit Works.
