The galleries are on the First Floor (lift access available). At the gallery entrance visitors can also visit the Rotunda Viewing Platform for fine views of the Castle and across the city.

The main displays cover aspects of Carlisle and Border history, from Prehistoric to recent times, and the natural history of the area, from geology to local wildlife. Temporary exhibitions are held in the Exhibitions Gallery on the same floor.
