If you have time after your visit to our award winning museum there is over 2000 years of history and heritage to explore in Carlisle’s Historic Quarter with its unique mix of attractions. Along with Tullie House there is Carlisle Castle with its dungeons and prisoner carvings, 900 year old Carlisle Cathedral and Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life but to name a few.
In the city centre you will find Carlisle’s oldest surviving building the The Guildhall, which is now home to a museum of civic history.
Around Carlisle there is also a modern mix of shops to enjoy and you can relax in the tranquil green spaces surrounding the city.
Carlisle was situated on Hadrians Wall, although parts of it are no longer visible within the city. Perhaps you might like to combine a trip to Carlisle with one that visits these nearby World Heritage sites?
