Opening Hours and Admission Charges


We are now open Monday to Saturday. Besides the usual permanent galleries and a new temporary exhibition, the shop and cafe are now operating as usual. We will still be implementing Covid-safety measures. Click here to find out what to expect on your visit.

How to book

There is no need to book for a general visit but if you would like to join us for a special event then advanced booking is recommended. You can book...

IN PERSON - From the museum's reception desk during normal opening hours.

BY PHONE - For credit/debit card bookings, call the Tullie House box office (open Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm) on 01228 618700.

Group Visits

When a group of 10 or more visit the museum, paying £5.00 per person the Group Leader and/or Coach Driver can enter free. The group rate is irrespective of the age or make up of the group. The group rate of £5.00 includes access to the museum, however on occassion there may be an additional charge for special events or exhibitions.

How to find us

Tullie House is in Carlisle City Centre which is well served by public transport. Only a 10 minute walk from the bus station and a further 2 minutes to the train station. 

If travelling by car we recommend parking in Castle Car Park, CA3 8UL. Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery can be reached on foot from the car park by following the road in front of Carlisle Castle, bring you directly outside the museum main entrance. Please note the Castle Car Park is only open between the hours of 6.30am and 8pm.

Tullie House Museum is set over three floors.  The basement houses our Roman Frontier Gallery, our ground floor houses our gift shop, restaurant and exhibitions gallery.  The first floor is home to the majority of the museum. 

Our Visitor Experience team is on hand throughout the Gallery and Museum should you require any assistance and offer collection conversations should you wish to find out more about our exciting collections.

The Guildhall Museum

Tullie House also manages The Guildhall Museum in Carlisle's Market Place. The Guildhall is a Grade 1 Ancient Monument, and one of the four oldest buildings in the city. 

The Guildhall Museum is currently closed to the public.
